SH Wrestling Youth Program 2/09/09 Update
We had a very good day this past Saturday. We wrestled two very good teams and came out very close to winning half our matches. If anyone saw the Mathew Whelpley overtime match, you’ll realize how hard our kids have worked this year to improve. Our wrestlers pinned more opponents this past weekend than any of the previous weeks combined. That is a definite sign that we are improving especially the pinning combinations. Thanks to all the parents and kids who helped set up and clean up the gym. This is our last full week of normal practice and our last meet. We need to finish with hard work. This week we’ll wrestle
The Haverford novice tournament was this past Sunday and all the wrestlers who attended wrestled very well. (13 went and 6 came home with trophies!)
James Morris (1st), Brett Burns (2nd), Kevin Smith (3rd), Patrick Gaughan (3rd), Connor Vinning (4th), and Nolan Diggins (4th). It was awesome!! Ian Trotter, Austin Vinning, Nathanial "Than" Thomas, Jack Thomas, Ryan Baker, Jeremy Baker, and Nikhil Gaur also wrestled great. The coaches were very proud of the way all our kids did. I’d like to thank all the parents who stayed to support all our wrestlers.

Note from Coach Newlon:
A couple of you said you would send emails with final orders and other info. If you could please do that in the next day or two I would appreciate it.
Team picture is now on the website www.shscrappers.com .
This is the time to order your 8 X 10 prints. Cost is $10 per picture. I would like these done by our banquet so don't delay.

Arrive at least 30-45 minutes before the start of the tournament.
This allows for proper warm-up of your athlete.
Allows the coach time to speak with your child if necessary.
Sometime the parking lot is huge and the entrance lines may be long just before the tournament. It makes it well worth arriving early.
All tournaments charge for the guest to enter. Wrestlers are free. They normally are priced between $3-5 per adult and $1-3 dollars for children.
Count on being at a tournament for at least 2 hours. They are typically single elimination type (one and done). Some are double elimination, which means he may lose his first match but will be put into another bracket until he loses one more time.
You may want to stay and watch the other team members wrestle; the boys usually like to cheer on their teammates. The parents tend to encourage the other wrestlers.
Weigh-ins are mandatory prior to any tournament. These are usually done the night before. Locations may vary from the site of the tournament (known as a satellite). This info is on the form.
All locations will have a snack bar. This can get expensive; consider bringing your own drinks and snacks.
Bring something to do! Gameboy, newspaper, homework book, toys, etc.
Bring a camera, video is best.
